10th INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF TURKOLOGY
November 12-13, 2024 – Istanbul / TURKEY
In-person / Online
The Research Institute of Turkology at Istanbul University is pleased to invite distinguished researchers worldwide in the field of Turkology to the 10th International Congress on Turkology, scheduled for November 12-13, 2024, commemorating the 100th anniversary of its establishment.
Recognizing needs for the scientific foundations of the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk instructed Prof. Dr. Mehmed Fuad Köprülü of Istanbul Darülfünun to establish the Institute of Turkology subsequent to the proclamation of the Republic on October 29, 1923. As a result, the Institute was formally established on November 12, 1924.
The Institute, as stipulated in its charter, has been dedicated to organizing scholarly conferences and seminars in partnership with academic institutions and organizations during its century-long history. Additionally, it has conducted research that encompasses various facets of Turkish culture, including literature, history, folklore, linguistics, and the arts. The Institute has served as the venue for numerous scholarly discussions and events throughout its long existence. The Turkology Congresses were among such.
On the occasion of the Republic of Turkey's 50th anniversary in 1973, an international congress was organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Caferoğlu, who served as the director of the Institute during that period. From the year 1978 onward, the national congresses have been conducted. The most recent congress was the 9th International Congress for Turkology, which was held in 2021 in honor of Yunus Emre and the Year of the Turkish Language.
Following its tradition and honoring its 100th anniversary, the Research Institute of Turkology intends to organize its 10th International Congress in 2024. The primary objective of the congress is to evaluate the scholarly and institutional trajectory of Turkology studies while reflecting on the past century of the institution.
The congress offers the opportunity for individual paper presentations as well as participation in panel format. For panel submissions, only the panel application form needs to be completed. All paper and panel submissions will undergo double-blind peer review. The congress format is both online and in-person. Following the congress, full papers will be editorially processed and transformed into an international academic publication.
*The participants are responsible for their accommodation and travel arrangements.
The congress will welcome papers on a wide range of subjects pertaining to the field, without any thematic limitations. Nevertheless, a particular emphasis will be placed on the institutionalization of Turkology as an academic discipline both domestically and internationally.
